MSIS at the Purple Parade 2018

The Singapore Purple Parade is a yearly event which supports the inclusion and celebrates the abilities of persons with special needs. The movement aims to ensure that people with special needs are included in Singapore’s growth, with equal access to education, employment, transport and social networks.

Over 10,000 people turned up to Suntec City on Saturday 27 October for the fourth edition of the event.  A contingent of 25 students, staff and families from MSIS participated in the Purple Parade this year.

This year was also the first year that 14 of our students, across all classes, performed for the crowd.  The students, with the help of the teachers, wrote new lyrics to “I Heard it Through the Grapevine”, and performed it with drumming, Soundbeam, singers and dancers. It was an uplifting performance, that highlighted how the students feel about attending MSIS.

The Purple Parade is the largest movement in Singapore to promote awareness of this sector. This is a wonderful trend that we want to see continue and grow.  We aim to continue to spread the message and encourage more people to get involved so that more attention can be focused on this important issue.
