Children in Singapore recognise the 1st Friday of October as Children’s Day – a time to honour and celebrate the joys of childhood through various activities and events catered especially for children. As Thursday was the last day of Term 3, we combined Children’s Day and World Smile Day into our End of Term Celebration.
World Smile Day is celebrated on the first Friday in the month of October every year. The idea of was coined and initiated by Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts. He is known to have created the Smiley Face in 1963. The world’s first World Smile Day was held in the year 1999 and has been held annually since. The theme of World Smile Day is to bring a smile to other’s faces.
We enjoyed water play in the morning, a pot luck lunch in the afternoon, and class fun and games in the afternoon. The Pathways 3 and Pathways 4 / Transition 5 – 6 were in for a special treat as they enjoyed an evening camp. They did some fun gym activities, worked together to make and eat dinner, then enjoyed a movie under the stars, ending the evening with a campfire singalong with Uncle Mo. It was a busy and enjoyable End of Term Celebration, which brought smiles to everyone’s faces.
